- Agriculture companies farm. 36 farm ports, each with its climate (Tropical, Tropical highland, Subtropical, Mediterranean, Arid, Oceanic, Cool, Continental), what it's known for and 6 to 12 plots: New Orleans, Savannah, Oakland, Seattle-Tacoma, Halifax, Veracruz, Puerto Cortes, Santos, Paranagua, Buenos Aires, Valparaiso, Guayaquil, Callao, Valencia, Palermo, Izmir, Porto, Rotterdam, Nantes-Saint-Nazaire, Cork, Aarhus, Odesa, Alexandria, Abidjan, Durban, Cape Town, Mombasa, Kolkata, Kochi, Colombo, Laem Chabang, Ho Chi Minh City, Tianjin, Brisbane, Melbourne and Auckland. A company farms at any farm port in a region it has unlocked.
- Land: each plot has its fertility (65% to 130%, fixed by its port and place) and is bought from the land at a price set by it and by how much of the port's land is taken ($1M for poor soil with the land all free to $6M for rich soil with the last of it). A company may own at most half a port's plots. It can sell a plot back to the land for half the land's price, or list it at its own asking price: another Agriculture company buys it with its crop or herd and upgrades (AI rivals buy listed plots too). The plots are shared by every company in the game, first come.
- Crops: any of the 38 farm crops (the 21 fresh, 11 new dry crops, coffee and the five grains), one to a plot. A crop's yield a year at full fit is $4M at its base price, times the plot's fertility and its climate fit, delivered day by day over its harvest months into the company's farm store at the port. Harvests follow the real seasons: the months north of the equator, six months later south of it, and at tropical ports twice a year unless it's gathered all year (bananas, pineapples, rubber). An annual crop needs 90 days before its first harvest and is sown again each year (8% of a year's yield at base price); an orchard, vineyard or plantation is planted once (35%) and bears fully after 2 years. Changing crop is replanting.
- Pastures: a plot can graze a herd of a breed instead (23 breeds: Angus, Hereford, Belted Galloway, Brahman, Nelore and Wagyu cattle; Merino, Suffolk, Romney, Dorper, Awassi and Valais Blacknose sheep; Large White, Duroc, Berkshire, Iberian and Meishan pigs; Thoroughbred, Arabian, Quarter Horse, Criollo, Clydesdale and Icelandic horses), each with its worth against its plain species (Wagyu x2.5, Iberian x2.2, Valais Blacknose x2...), its growth a year, the head a plot carries (scaled so each species' plain breed's young are worth about what a field yields: 64,000 Angus, 72,000 Suffolk, 36,000 Large White, 36,800 Criollo; the approved draft's numbers x160, x90, x30 and x230) and the climates it thrives in. Stocking buys the herd from local breeders at a fifth of its market value; a full herd's young (growth x fit) go into the store day by day, and a herd short of full (after an outbreak) keeps its young till it's full again. Livestock carriers load the young stock, which sells at its breed's worth; clearing a pasture drives its herd into the store.
- Weather: at each new year the year after's is drawn: a few farm ports get a drought (most at arid, Mediterranean, subtropical and continental ports), a late frost (cool, continental, oceanic and Mediterranean) or a hard winter (cool and continental). The Farms screen shows this year's and next year's; the activity log warns where the company farms. A drought takes 55% of a year's crops (10% with irrigation) and 40% of a herd's young; a frost 65% of the fruit, berries and vegetables (none under greenhouses); a hard winter 40% of the young (5% with barns). A storm over the port takes 70% of that day's harvest. Herds have outbreaks now and then (8% a year, a quarter with vets), losing 10-30% of the herd (half with vets).
- Upgrades, a plot each: Irrigation ($400,000: +10%, droughts take only 10%), Greenhouses ($900,000, fresh crops: the climate fits halfway better, +25% for the longer season, no frost), Machinery ($500,000: half the wages, +5%), and for pastures Barns ($500,000), Better grass ($400,000: +20% head) and Vets ($300,000). A cold store ($1.5M a farm port) slows the store's fresh crops to a quarter of their loss.
- Costs: the land, planting, herds, upgrades and farm workers' wages ($23,000 a planted plot or pasture every pay period, with the crews': half with machinery), in the Finances totals as Farm land bought, Farm land sold, Farm costs and Farm store sales.
- The farm store: the harvest waits there for the company's ships, loaded free at the port: grain carriers take the dry crops, Fresh produce carriers the fruit, berries and vegetables, livestock carriers the young stock, each the one that pays most where it's going, its worth there counted as its cost. Fresh crops lose their daily share of value there too (a quarter with a cold store), dry crops 0.2% a day; under 25% they're thrown away (logged). Anything can be sold on the spot at the port's price. Farms never move market prices.
- The Farms screen (the Farms page over the map, from its button at the map's top left, for companies that can farm): the farm ports down the left (All farm ports, My farms or Plots for sale; the company's own first, then its unlocked regions; each with its climate, free plots, its plots, plots for sale and this year's weather), and the port picked: its region, climate, what it's known for, the weather this year and next, a card for every plot (soil, owner, price and Buy; for its own what it grows with its fit, bearing, harvest months and yield a year, a crop picker and a herd picker each listing every choice best fit first with its yield and cost, the upgrades that suit it, List for sale with an asking price or Take off the list, Sell to the land (click again to confirm), and Clear the plot), and the farm store (each item's amount, freshness and worth with Sell here, and Build a cold store). The port popup of a farm port says so (climate, free plots, the company's plots and its store's worth) with a Farms button to it.
- On the map each farm port's fields lie behind its town (four across, a row per four plots, on the land): wild grass for the land's, bare earth for an owned plot with nothing in, green while growing, the crop's colour while it's harvested, bare after, snow over the fields of cool and continental ports in winter; orchards drawn as rows of trees, pastures with their herd dotted about in the breed's colour, and each company's plots edged in its colour with a red barn.
- AI rivals with Agriculture (from level 3, every few thinks) buy a listed plot they can afford for up to 30% over the land's price, else the best plot for its price at a farm port in their regions, and plant the best fitting crop their ships carry (or graze the best breed for their livestock carriers); one plot plus one every 12 levels, up to 6.
