Privacy Policy

Maritime Empire is made and sold by Rory Ferrick ("I", "me"). This policy explains what the game does with information about you. The short version: I don't collect any personal information. The game has no accounts, analytics, tracking, ads or servers of my own, and it never sends anything to me.
What stays on your computer
The game saves these files only on your own computer, in its user data folder:
- your saved games (including, for multiplayer games, the company names and chosen player names of the people who played)
- your settings (sound volumes, map options and similar)
- the game engine's own log file, used for troubleshooting
None of these are uploaded anywhere. You can delete them at any time by deleting the game's user data folder.
Multiplayer
Multiplayer runs directly between the players' computers. There is no server of mine in between.
- Over Steam: the game uses Steam's matchmaking and networking. It reads your Steam display name so other players can see who you are. It also shows basic details about each game in the lobby list: the game's name, how many players it has, whether it needs a password and whether the word filter is on. Valve handles this information under the Steam Privacy Policy.
- Over a local network (LAN) or by address: your computer's network address is visible to the other players' computers, as it is with any direct connection. Games hosted on a LAN announce themselves to other computers on that same network so they can be found.
- What goes to other players: the name you play under, your company and your moves in the game, and any chat messages you type. All of this goes only to the other players in that game. Chat is kept only for the length of the game and in the saved games of the players in it. A game's host can switch on a word filter that blanks out inappropriate words in ship names and chat.
- Game passwords are sent to the host to let you join. Don't use a password you use anywhere else.
Purchases in the game
Skin packs are bought with Sand Dollars, an in-game currency sold in bundles through Steam. The payment itself is taken by Steam, under Valve's terms and the Steam Privacy Policy: the game never sees your payment details. What the game keeps is on your own computer, in its user data folder: your Sand Dollar balance, the packs you own and a record of each bundle and pack bought (what was bought and when, without any payment or account details). Nothing about your purchases is sent to me.
Children
The game isn't aimed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect information from anyone, children included.
Third parties
When you play through Steam, Valve's own terms and privacy policy cover your Steam account, purchases and Steam features. I don't receive your Steam account details, payment details or email address. Valve gives me only sales and usage numbers that don't identify you.
Changes
If the game ever starts collecting information (for example, if online features are added), this policy will be updated before that happens, and the date at the top will change.
