Lanes gate to gate
Added or changed on 13 October 2026
- The old lanes started at the port point itself and were taken off the land afterwards (a 70-minute pass that bent them stretch by stretch).
- Coming alongside, pulling out, lying at anchor and the tugs' work are as they were, between the mouth and the berths.
- The strait courses (CHANNELS) grew: Gibraltar and the Oresund run on past the marina discs of the ports that stand on them, and Bab-el-Mandeb, the Kii Channel (Osaka), the Gulf of Aqaba, Chesapeake Bay and Juan de Fuca with Haro Strait (Vancouver) are new. A port standing on a strait (Tanger Med and Gibraltar, Copenhagen, Singapore, Port Said, Gioia Tauro) has the course run through its marina disc: that's the way past it. Ports whose gate lies in a neighbour's disc (Gibraltar in Tanger Med's, Hamilton in Toronto's, Duluth in Two Harbors', Gary in Chicago's, Toledo in Detroit's, Port Tewfik in Ain Sokhna's, Lianyungang in Rizhao's) sail out through it. Dudinka's gate is on the drawn land (up the Yenisei) and New Orleans' in Lake Pontchartrain: their lanes go straight to the nearest course from there, over whatever lies between; Osaka's gate to the Kii course likewise.
- A trolling boat works its ground up and back along a line through its spot (a stadium: two legs 2.4 nm long a turn's width apart, 0.25 nm turns), not in a circle; trawlers still loop.
